Bringing Back Our Own Version Of Eat Out To Help Out

It’s almost been a year since we came out the first lockdown period and saw the introduction of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Customers received money off food and non-alcoholic drinks, with the government reimbursing the establishment for the discount, which was up to £10 per diner.

With the hospitality industry being one of the hardest hit by coronavirus restrictions, it was great to see people being encouraged to get back into restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes. Given the success of the scheme, we thought why not introduce a great deal of our own?

Current coronavirus restrictions are due to be lifted on the 19th of July, just in time for us to start offering 25% off your food bill throughout August! Just like the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, this incredible offer will apply on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, beginning on Monday the 2nd and ending on Wednesday the 25th.

We also have a new menu coming very soon so if you’ve been sticking to takeaways while restrictions remain in place, you now have all the more reason to mix up your routine and pay us a visit. Or maybe you just fancy a delicious meal after work with a few friends. Either way, don’t miss out on by booking yourself a table here.

We’d love to hear from you if you do come and enjoy this great offer, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with us on social media. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Summer Means One Thing... Cocktails

Summer is approaching, which to us means drinking a boozy or non-alcoholic cocktail in the sun. Let’s be real, nothing beats a warm summer evening with a crisp cocktail in hand.

Here at SE Twenty, we take our cocktail making very seriously. So, look no further. Jazz up your week with one of our revolutionary cocktails. Revisit your favourite or consider venturing into the unknown. Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed.

Passionfruit Martini

The Passionfruit Martini has to be a number one cocktail, particularly here at SE Twenty. Given the tart flavour of passionfruit, it is paired with the sweet softness of vanilla, creating a bright yellow drink which looks as good as it tastes.

Espresso Martini

Feeling full and sluggish after a hearty evening meal?  Our Espresso Martini offers the perfect balance between coffee and booze, keeping you feeling wide awake all the way until closing time. The classic mix of vodka, Khalua and espresso coffee comes shaken and stirred in an elegant Martini glass.

Does anything say summer quite like a mouth-watering mojito? The vibrant blend of Bacardi Carta Blanca Rum, fresh lime and mint leaves topped with soda will leave you thinking you’re relaxing by the pool on your long-awaited holiday abroad. If a standard mojito doesn’t quite take your fancy, why not add a sweet twist to your cocktails with some pineapple nectar?

If you’ve been selected as the designated driver for the evening, don’t worry – our mocktails are just as tasty as the real thing. Our Virgin Mojito offers an alcohol-free take on the classic drink, combining a delicious mix of lime juice, apple juice, elderflower and, of course, mint! Alternatively, give our Exotic Mix a go. This fruity concoction of passionfruit, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and lime means you won’t be missing out on the summer vibes if you’re on soft drinks.

If you are still uncertain, perhaps you are craving something more nuance. Simply request a cocktail and we will make it for you.

Tempted? We really don’t blame you. So, what are you waiting for? Come and visit us, your tastebuds will thank you. Take a look at our full range of food and drink here, and be sure to follow us on social media. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Top Dishes From Our Menu

As much as we’ve missed having our lovely customers in SE Twenty during lockdown, it’s been amazing to see so many of you enjoying our new delivery service. Seeing as there’s still a few weeks before we welcome you back on the 12th of April, we thought we’d recommend some of the most popular dishes from our delivery menu for you to try.

Sunday roasts

Does anything beat a traditional Sunday roast? Of course this had to be one of our recommendations! With the option of various meats such as lamb, chicken and succulent beef rump, our roasts come served with all the essential trimmings – crispy roast potatoes, seasonal veg and Yorkshire puddings all soaked in gravy. Alternatively, cut out the meat with our vegan option, featuring butternut squash stuffed with spinach, quinoa, chestnut mushroom and salsa verde.

English breakfast

Although they’re meals you eat at completely different times of the day, a hearty English breakfast is definitely one tough competitor for the Sunday roast. Like the roast, our SE Twenty breakfast comes with all the essentials, including streaky bacon, sausage, hash brown and two eggs cooked the way you like. You can opt for the vegan choice if you’d prefer, featuring halloumi cheese and portobello mushroom, and we also know you might like some items more than others which is why you can customise your own breakfast too.

Whether you’re grabbing some fast food or having a family meal, burgers have long been a go-to option, and that’s no different when it comes to our delivery menu. Our traditional homemade beef and chicken burgers come served with all your favourite toppings, including cheese, lettuce, pickle and juicy beef tomato. Also, our halloumi and beyond burgers mean you don’t have to miss out if you’re vegetarian or vegan.

Jerk Chicken

If you’ve had Caribbean cuisine before, there’s a good chance it was jerk. This Jamaican dish has become increasingly popular in the UK as a whole and we just had to include it in our delivery menu. Coated in jerk sauce and a special blend of homemade seasoning, our jerk chicken is the ideal choice for those who love a kick of spice. Also served with some cool coleslaw and the option of chips or rice, this is a filling and flavoursome dish we know you’ll love.

Surf & Turf

It’s safe to say our surf and turf has become a firm customer favourite, and it’s easy to see why. Half a grilled lobster comes served with a succulent ribeye steak, so you certainly have the very best of both worlds. All servings come with a portion of chunky chips and crispy onion rings, with the whole dish coming together with a kick of flavour from our garlic butter and a squeeze of lemon.

Grilled tiger prawns

If you think the lobster on our surf and turf sounds irresistibly good, you should take a look at some of our other fish dishes, particularly our grilled tiger prawns. They’re cooked to perfection and can be enjoyed as a starter, alongside your main dish or even as a snack! Our garlic butter is put to good use once again, while green mango and herb salad further add to the array of flavours on your plate.

If we’ve tempted you to try any of these dishes, you can find us on Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats to place your order. Alternatively, check out our full delivery menu here, and be sure to follow our social media. We’re on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Halloween: Six Spooky SE Twenty Recipes

A grand Halloween party might not be possible this year, but a few sweet treats remain a must. Thankfully for you, SE Twenty has found some simple and equally delicious recipes for the whole family to have a go at this October. Seeing as Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, why not make a day of it? We have spooky starters, monstrous mains, devilish desserts and even some creepy cocktails to make sure your 2020 Halloween banquet is one to remember.

Halloween Breadstick Bones

Breadsticks are a classic snack you can easily replicate yourself, while adding a Halloween inspired twist. Using a simple recipe – or pre-prepared dough – roll it into long sausages before cutting and shaping the ends. Add a generous layer of cheese for some extra crunch, as well as using some guacamole and tomato salsa dips to give your scrumptious skeleton bones an extra kick of flavour.

See the recipe here.

Jalapeno Popper Mummies

These creepily cute jalapeno popper mummies are the perfect appetiser or side for your main dish. Making use of some ready-made shortcrust pastry, bandage your jalapenos with a combo filling of cream cheese and scallion. This ghoulishly gooey appetiser is most enjoyed hot, so make sure to serve them straight from the oven.

See the recipe here.

Mummified Meatballs in Skin Coffins

Continuing with the theme, these mummified meatballs in human (potato) skin coffins make for a deliciously filling addition to your main course. Using as many medium sized russet potatoes as you feel you need, scoop out the insides and place in either your homemade or ready-made meatballs. Again, add a healthy layer of stringy cheese bandages to make your meatball mummies come alive with flavour.

Petrifying Pizzas

Let your little witches and wizards experiment with a variety of toppings for these Halloween pizzas. Like the breadstick bones, use a simple dough recipe, or feel free to buy pre-prepared. If you wish, separate the dough and role the pieces to make 3 or 4 smaller pizzas. Spread some passata and scatter the mozzarella before adding terrifying toppings of your choice – perhaps whole black olives as spider bodies, and olive slices as legs.

Creepy Cupcakes

For any keen bakers, these creepy black velvet cupcakes are the perfect post-dinner treat. Once you’ve made your mix, separate it into tins and bake the cakes until they are risen and springy to the touch. Add a layer of homemade black buttercream and design your own witch’s cat or, alternatively, get creative with a variety of chewy sweet toppings and make some frightening faces.

Halloween Jekyll and Gin Cocktails

After a day of cooking and entertaining the kids, you deserve to relax. Perhaps pop into SE Twenty Café for a well-earned drink and a bite to eat. If you’d prefer to spend the full day at home, these Jekyll and Gin cocktails are a great way to conclude the evening. Simply mixing gin, lemon juice and grenadine in a cocktail shaker, this drink will be ready to serve in no time. Pour the mix into a large glass filled with ice before topping it with tonic water. Feel free to drop in a glowstick for an added ghostly effect, and enjoy!

What our customers have to say

We’re missing our lovely customers. To cheer us up while we wait to open our doors again we’ve been reading some of the reviews SE Twenty have received and thought we’d share some of them with you.

Super place!

Have been meaning to try this place for some time and finally went today for a late breakfast/brunch. We were greeted and found a seat immediately; the cafe was lovely and clean with a fab decor. The food was really good, came out in a timely manner and a very reasonable price. The staff were also very pleasant. Great to have such a lovely cafe/bar in the area! Will definitely go again!!

Vegetarian breakfast

We enjoyed a perfect vegetarian breakfast - the best we've had. Beautifully cooked and presented. The staff were friendly and helpful. All power to you - I hope you continue to thrive. What a find!!! The cafe has been tastefully decorated - altogether a winning project!

Brilliant meal

Absolutely lovely staff, brilliant food 10/10 will be coming again. Jerk chicken was lovely, a little spicy but just to my taste! ❤️

Fab service, extra friendly staff, well priced and delicious food. Catered for a group of eight last night and had amazing service. The guys I see in the morning for my coffee before work are just so friendly, thank you. Highly recommended

Beyond satisfied

Just had the nicest Sunday roast in a five mile radius by far. I have been to SE Twenty for breakfast and have to say the service and food is just as good. The decor is wonderful and very clean. Excellent service, not overbearing just enough. Without a doubt I'll be definitely coming back here and highly recommend.

Absolute hidden diamond in this area!

Visited SE Twenty for brunch on a Saturday. The place is tastefully decorated, the menu isn’t extensive but was we ate was really good quality and tasty. Service is excellent and attentive. Will be back soon for a drink one evening. Given the other options in this area, I can’t recommend enough!

Best Butchers

It’s National BBQ week and while cafes and restaurants are not open for business it’s the perfect time to fire up a feast in your garden. Here we look at some of the best butchers in the area. But you don’t need to take our word for it, hear what others have to say.

Award winning Carnivore loves doing things the hard way “if we can make it we will, you'll see us preparing all our own sausages from scratch in the shop, not hidden away in some back room. We make all our own bacon, dry cure our own gammons and cook them ourselves. We even have our own smoker. Many of the marinaded products are from our own recipes.”

“We used their meat for a large BBQ, it was amazing quality and so tasty! Everyone commented on how much better it was than meat you can buy elsewhere. And they really looked after us, excellent customer service.”

123a Southborough Lane, Bromley

Flock & Herd

Sourcing the very best and affordable produce and the desire to meet every customer's needs Flock & Herd aims to provide the very best possible quality and range of produce so its customers get the best in taste, service and experience.

“It's not often that I rate a butcher quite so high, but Flock & Herd is a neighbourhood gem and deserves the praise. I can definitely recommend the sausages - from lamb merguez to venison and red wine - and the staff are very helpful. “

206, High Street, Beckenham

Villagers Sausages

If you’re a fan of sausages then look no further. Villagers Sausages has the biggest selection of quality hand-made, natural sausages anywhere, producing over 70 varieties of hand-made sausages a week in full view of its customers.

“Very wide selection of top quality sausages available including a massive boerewors. The burgers were absolutely amazing, as were the pork belly ribs. They have a great selection of sauces, marinades and BBQ products too.”

91, High Street, Beckenham

Murray Brothers

Excellent quality, service with a smile and apparently, they can sing too!

“My partner or I travel a 10-mile round trip most weekends as this is the best butchers around and the only place to get fresh, good quality prepared products. Never had a bad experience in the nine years we have been visiting. Great and helpful staff with great singing voices too! Can’t recommend them enough.”

146, High Street, Penge

Billings Fishmongers and Butchers

Billings boasts responsibility sourced fresh fish and the tastiest quality meats in south east London. Offering a great selection of marinated fish and meat, it has everything you need for a BBQ.

“Great high quality skilled butchers and  fishmongers all in one place. Quality of all produce is consistently excellent, staff are professional and knowledgeable. Seasonal game, fresh fish & shellfish. Lots of seasonal produce. Excellent and even during the current challenging times well-stocked.”

45, Sydenham Road, Sydenham

Easy shakshouka recipe

You don’t need to forego your favourite breakfasts from our menu, and we all deserve a treat, so we’ve come up with a solution to make mealtimes during lockdown a bit more special. If you’ve been craving our famed shakshouka dish for breakfast or lunch, you can now recreate it at home thanks to our super easy recipe.

Tried your hand at baking while in isolation? This Middle Eastern dish pairs perfectly with a slice of tasty sourdough or a good old crusty roll. The best part about preparing this dish is that you can serve it straight from the pan, which means less washing up!

Two people

4 large eggs
2 tins of chopped tomatoes
1 clove of garlic
2 red onions
A bunch of fresh coriander
1 tbsp of olive oil
1 tsp of caster sugar
1 tsp of chilli flakes (optional)

Step 1

Heat a small amount of olive oil in a frying pan. Dice the onions while the oil warms up, then add them to the pan.

Step 2

As the onions soften, add crushed garlic and chopped coriander stalks to the pan. If you’re a fan of spice, add chilli flakes to build extra flavour.

Step 3

Once the onions and garlic have a golden-brown glow, pour the chopped tomatoes into the pan. Sprinkle some sugar over the top and allow the tomatoes to bubble away for 8-10 minutes.

Step 4

Allow the juice of the tomatoes to reduce until you’re left with a thick, rich sauce. If you find you have too much sauce, you can store some away in your freezer for up to one month.

Step 5

Reduce the heat and make space for the eggs, by creating four dips in your sauce with the back of a wooden spoon. Carefully crack an egg into each dip.

Step 6

Cover the frying pan with a lid and leave to simmer for 6-8 minutes over a low heat. Once the eggs have been cooked to your satisfaction, remove the lid and garnish with coriander leaves.

Be adventurous with this dish and make it your own by adding your favourite herbs and spices. You can even add a side dish or two for a delicious quarantine family brunch.

Give our shakshouka recipe a go and share snaps of your handy work with us on social media. You’ll find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
